Metaverse advertising issues are not new, but they do present heightened risks. 🤖

💡 Brands need to ensure their metaverse ads are clear to consumers.

🌎 In the decentralised world of the metaverse, understanding which countries' advertising regimes apply can be challenging.

👨‍💼 Existing rules on advertising, such as the Advertising Standards Authority's (ASA) 2021 Online Remit Guidance, still apply in the metaverse.

💬 Key risk areas for brands regarding metaverse advertising include the immersive nature of the platform that can increase the risk of consumers not recognizing advertising.

💰 Brands releasing NFTs need to be aware that they may be treated as cryptoassets, and additional obligations apply.

⚖️ Overall, while the issues thrown up by advertising in the metaverse are not new, the medium certainly creates heightened risks and is likely to draw regulator attention for the foreseeable future.
