People will book holidays after metaverse visits ✈️
🌍💻 Are you ready to book a holiday in the metaverse? According to Dame Irene Hays, consumers will be doing just that in the next decade. The chair of Hays Travel recently spoke at a conference in the Algarve, where she stated that people will be booking holidays as a result of having visited places in the metaverse.
🛳️ Cruise lines such as Celebrity are already increasing their offerings in the virtual sphere, with the launch of their virtual world called Wonderverse, which allows customers to explore their ships before sailing on them.
🏖️ While there are some who are sceptical about this trend, keynote speaker Ken Hughes believes that the metaverse is a massive opportunity, much like the internet was in 1995. Hughes, a consumer behaviouralist, also highlighted the collision of physical and digital experiences in what he calls the "phygital" world, and how $100 billion has already been spent in virtual environments.
✈️ So what does this mean for the future of travel? While some may still prefer the feel of sunshine on their skin, others may opt to visit destinations in the metaverse before booking a real-life holiday. And who knows? Maybe one day, the metaverse will be just as popular a holiday destination as any physical location.
