Unlocking the Future of Work: IKEA's Venture into the Metaverse
I spend a lot of time advising with youth organisations about the future of work.
You can imagine the blank faces I get from young people and youth workers alike when I discuss employment opportunities in the metaverse.
I hate to say I told you so.... (that's a lie, I love it) ... IKEA is stepping into the metaverse!
With paid virtual roles up for grabs, giving you a chance to earn while exploring IKEA’s world.
IKEA is about to launch 'The Co-Worker Game' on Roblox, making waves in the virtual world.
Starting on 24th June 2024, you can dive into IKEA’s unique work culture through this virtual experience.
These roles are fully remote and flexible, with an hourly rate of £13.15 / €14.80.
Applications are open now until 16th June 2024.
But this isn’t just about gaming; it’s about using virtual platforms for career growth and development.
In the game, you can take on tasks, help customers, and move through different departments, just like in a "real" (material world) IKEA job.
This initiative is also about inclusivity, opening up career opportunities for many.
But let's take a minute to think about who can benefit from careers in virtual spaces:
→ Disabled people
→ Those living in remote areas
→ Caregivers needing flexible work options
→ Parents seeking better work-life balance
→ Students wanting part-time work without the commute
→ Older adults re-entering the workforce
The metaverse is breaking down barriers, allowing meaningful work from anywhere.
Maybe scolding kids for playing video games and telling them it won't get them a job doesn't account for our increasingly digital world.
