Unlocking Time: How I Added 16.67 Extra Workdays Monthly Through Automation Mastery
Every month, I complete an additional 16.67 days of work (thanks to automations).
To explain, I automate around 24 processes which together complete around 1600 tasks per month.
Assuming each task takes me five minutes, the time saved equates to:
- 8000 minutes
- 133.33 hours
- 16.67 working days (based upon an eight-hour working day)
Elon Musk famously remarked, "Even smart engineers will optimise something that shouldn't have even been built."
Here’s the playbook every AI & automation ops team or provider should be enacting:
(1) Commence with proving value over cost.
(2) Ascertain that AI & automation is not only capable of performing the task efficiently, but also that the task itself holds intrinsic value.
(3) Consider the principle of 'eliminate'.
→ Before embarking on any optimisations, rigorously evaluate each component of your workflow.
→ Ask yourself: Are all processes essential, or can some be eliminated to streamline operations?
(4) Pivot to 'automate'.
→ Constructing modular systems allows for the automation of components, replacing expensive solutions with more cost-effective, automated alternatives without sacrificing performance.
(5) 'Delegate' emerges as a critical strategy.
→ Efficiently delegate tasks to outside providers, less costly resources or technologies, ensuring that your high-value resources concentrate on areas where they can deliver the most significant impact.
(6) Continuous monitoring is non-negotiable.
→ In the realm of AI, today's efficacy is no guarantee of tomorrow's performance.
→ Vigilant oversight is crucial to adapt to changes such as prompt drift, securing the long-term efficacy of your AI & automation endeavours.
How are you leveraging these strategies — eliminate, automate, delegate - to ensure cost reduction, strategic efficiency and innovation within your operations?
